KU has an informal recruitment period that lasts all year long. This process is called informal because individual chapters contact prospective members and invite to Recruitment Events. A prospective member can attend as many events with as many chapters as he likes. This gives him an extended time period to make his final decision. Beginning the first Sunday in May, fraternities can “sign” prospective members for the fall. This simply means that they cannot join any other Greek chapter at KU. It does not commit them to KU, or disallow them from living in other housing. Many chapters will also have a spring new member class. These men are normally recruited in the fall and sign with a chapter during the fall semester or at the beginning of the spring semester.
