Anti-Hazing Policy

Panhellenic Association Anti-Hazing Policy - The Panhellenic Association policy on hazing is provided in the bylaws of the Constitution of the University of Kansas Panhellenic Association, Article XIV. Hazing, which states:
"All forms of hazing, pledge day and/or pre-initiation activities which are defined as hazing shall be banned. Hazing is defined as any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule. Such activities and situations include creation of excessive fatigue; physical and psychological shocks; wearing publicly, apparel which is conspicuous and not normally in good taste; engaging in public stunts and jokes; morally degrading or humiliating games and activities; late night sessions which interfere with scholastic activities; and any other activities which are not consistent with the regulations and policies of the educational institution."
State of Kansas Statute on Hazing - 21-3434 - Chapter 21. CRIMES AND PUNISHMENTS , PART II.--PROHIBITED CONDUCT - Article 34.--CRIMES AGAINST PERSONS - Promoting or permitting hazing.
(a) No social or fraternal organization shall promote or permit hazing.
(b) Hazing is intentionally, coercing, demanding or encouraging another person to perform as a condition of membership in a social or fraternal organization, any act which could reasonably be expected to result in great bodily harm, disfigurement or death or which is done in a manner whereby great bodily harm, disfigurement or death could be inflicted.
(c) Promoting or permitting hazing is a class B nonperson misdemeanor.
(d) This section shall be part of and supplemental to the Kansas criminal code.
